Thickspike Gayfeather, also known as Kansas gayfeather, is a tall, hardy native perennial of the Asteraceae family. The purple inflorescence are long and bloom from the top down to extend the overall period that the plant is flowering during its July-August bloom period. Growth occurs best in moist, low laying areas of tall grass prairies. Seeding should be done in fall or late winter into a clean firm seed bed. Planting depth of a ¼ inch is best and caution should be taken to not plant any deeper.
