Sawtooth Sunflower is a native perennial found growing in most of the eastern half of the United States. Given its name by the serrated edges of its narrow leaves, it is not a distinguishing characteristic due to variability as some leaves are smooth or only slightly serrated. Its smooth red stems aid in the identification of this Helianthus member. Growing best in full sunlight and moist, fertile soils, it can reach 2-13 feet in height. Bright yellow flowers are in bloom from August-September.
