Strawberry clover

Strawberry clover

Trifolium fragiferum

Low growing nitrogen-fixing perennial legume with stolons and round pink flower heads resembling strawberries. Widely adapted to all soil textures. Highly tolerant of saline and alkaline soils; able to withstand flooding and poorly drained sites. Will survive short periods of drought. Easily established and grows rapidly but seedlings are not competitive with weeds. Persistent once established and more tolerant of heavy grazing than other clovers. Use for erosion control, pasture, hay, green manure, pollinator habitat and groundcover in orchards and vineyards. Leaves and seeds foraged by wild game animals and upland birds.
