Native drought tolerant perennial with numerous tight clusters of long-lasting white to pink tubular flowers, blooming June to October. Vivid fall colors after senescence. Distinctly tall and slender for a buckwheat. Common, occurring in openings of foothills, dry meadows, gravelly flats, steppe and shrublands; 4,000 to 10,000 ft. elevation. Often forms large patches or colonies. Host for various species of butterflies; attracts large numbers of native bees.Â
