Dalea purpurea var. purpurea

Formerly Petalostemon purpureus. Native, Warm season non-toxic leguminous perennial with pink to purple flowers, blooming June to September. Deep woody, stout taproot. Adapted to well-drained soils of hillsides, prairies and plains; up to 8,000 ft. elevation. Highly palatable browse to ungulates and many types of wildlife. Intolerant of overgrazing. Attracts numerous bees and is the larval host plant of the Southern dogface butterfly. Use for restoration, beautification, roadsides and habitat improvement.
