Prairie Sand Reed

Calamotivita longifolia

Tall, Warm season, rhizomatous, sod-forming perennial occurring on well-drained sites, especially deep sands. Drought tolerant once established; intolerant of high water tables. Moderately palatable to livestock and wildlife, though somewhat coarse and woody. Due to its abundance and forage yield it is considered to be vital to many grazing programs within its native range. Useful in stabilizing sandy soils, dunes and other blowout areas.
