Short to tall, Warm season, drought tolerant, perennial bunchgrass with short rhizomes, adapted to well-drained fine to coarse textured soils. Important prairie restoration species; slow to establish but long-lived. Palatable to wildlife and livestock. Seeds eaten by songbirds. Also grown as an ornamental.
