Chamaecrista fasciculata

Fairly drought tolerant, native annual legume with showy yellow flowers, blooming July to September. Common in poor soils of prairies, roadsides, waterways and disturbed areas; thrives after wildfire. Establishes rapidly and volunteers easily. Often in dense stands, decreasing as other species establish. Palatable in wildlife food plots but poisonous to livestock when over-consumed. Valuable pollinator species for native bees and honeybees.
