Schizachyrium scoparium

Formerly Andropogon scoparius. Warm season, moderately drought tolerant, long-lived perennial bunchgrass with a deep fibrous root system. Adapted to a wide range of soils. Exceptionally drought tolerant; persistent. Generally found on dry uplands but occasionally some wetter sites; intolerant of wetlands. Provides good palatability to livestock and wildlife. Use for pasture, range improvement, as a dominant component in tallgrass prairie restoration and for stabilizing a variety of soils, including sands.
