This tough and bitter prairie plant is not grazed by livestock or wildlife but does offer nectar for pollinators.   Prefers full sun to partial shade Mature height of 2-4 feet Very stout and rigid main stem refers to the common name. Deep purple flowers attract bees and butterflies Commonly found in moist prairies, streambanks and wetlands Tends to be aggressive if planted as a mono-culture, needs competition
