Formerly Argemone platyceras. Drought tolerant native annual, biennial or perennial with bright white or occasionally lavender flowers, blooming April to October. Covered in slender yellow prickles. Occurs in coarse to medium textured soils of prairies, foothills, roadsides and disturbed areas; up to 8,000 ft. elevation. Poisonous to livestock.
