Arizona Cottontop
Digitaria californica
Arizona Cottontop (Digitaria californica) is a perennial grass native to Southwestern US states (such as Arizona, New Mexico, and Texas) that can thrive in USDA Zones 7–10. Reaching a mature height of 1–3 feet with an upright tufted growth habit, it features narrow, grayish-green leaves and produces slender seed spikes covered in soft, cottony white hairs. It thrives in dry, gravelly plains, rocky slopes, and desert grasslands and is ideal for arid rangeland restoration, desert soil stabilization, and livestock grazing.
