American Sloughgrass
Beckmannia syzigachne
American Sloughgrass (Beckmannia syzigachne) is an annual or short-lived perennial grass native to Western and Northern US states (such as Oregon, Idaho, North Dakota, and Alaska) that can thrive in USDA Zones 2–8. Reaching a mature height of 1–3 feet with an upright tufted growth habit, it features light green, succulent leaves and produces dense, spike-like panicles with distinctive coin-shaped spikelets. It thrives in wet mud, shallow water, and seasonally flooded basins and is ideal for quick wetland revegetation, retention pond stabilization, and duck forage.
