Altai Wildrye
Leymus angustus
Altai Wildrye (Leymus angustus) is a perennial grass native to northern US states (such as Montana, North Dakota, and Minnesota) and has also been successfully introduced across North America as a non-invasive forage grass that can thrive in USDA Zones 2–7. Reaching a mature height of 2–4 feet with a deep-rooted, coarse clumping growth habit, it features stiff, blue-green leaves and produces long, erect seed spikes. It thrives in saline to neutral dryland soils and is ideal for late-fall livestock grazing, winter pasture holding, and deep-soil erosion control.
