Alkali Sacaton
Sporobolus airoides
Alkali Sacaton (Sporobolus airoides) is a perennial grass native to Western and Central US states (such as New Mexico, Arizona, Utah, and Colorado) that can thrive in USDA Zones 4–9. Reaching a mature height of 2–4 feet with a dense, robust clumping growth habit, it features coarse, pale green leaves and produces large, open, feathery seed panicles. It thrives in saline or alkaline flats, floodplains, and dry bottomlands and is ideal for alkali soil reclamation, rangeland grazing, and wind erosion control.
