Hordeum depressum
Alkali Barley (Hordeum depressum) is an annual grass native to Western US states (such as California, Oregon, Idaho, and Nevada) that can thrive in USDA Zones 5–10. Reaching a mature height of 8–16 inches with an upright to ascending growth habit, it features narrow green leaf blades and produces compact, awned seed spikes. It thrives in saline and alkaline flats, seasonally wet depressions, and clay soils and is ideal for saline soil revegetation, alkaline wetland restoration, and quick-cover soil stabilization.
